Eyelid surgery will rectify the problem but will not be able to do anything about your facial features. While the results of upper eyelid surgery last for five to seven years, lower eyelid surgery will seldom be required again.

Cost of the treatment

You will need someone to assist you after the surgery as you will have to live with bandaged eyes for some time. Of course, you will have to take leave from the office and perform a limited set of activities for some time. You might experience dry eyes for some time after the surgery. Ice packs, ice cubes, small gauze pads, eye drops, clean towels,  and painkillers must be kept handy for your use. One should consume the painkillers prescribed by the doctor. The surgery in detail

After administering a local anesthesia and an oral sedative, the surgery is initiated. If both the lids are required to be rectified, the upper lids are handled first. The surgeon cuts the eyelids and removes the excess fat from the area. The cuts are closed with very small stitches. The lower lids may be rectified by using a CO2 laser or cutting along the lash line. In either case, the cuts lines are so fine that they are hardly visible and fade out after some time.

Recovery

Post surgery, both the eyelids will be covered since they will have stitches. The bandages will be removed after a minimum of 1 week. You might experience some bruising and swelling but the eyelids return to normal after a week or a fortnight. One needs to be careful about the medicines and the instructions given by the surgeon, otherwise, the eyelids may suffer from bleeding or infection. It is common to experience dry eyes or a pulled down lower lid after the surgery. An abnormal coloring of the eyelids or a loss of vision may also be experienced in rare cases.
